Design Up North
So, last night, I was extremely lucky to attend an exclusive evening at Redbrick Mill in Batley, West Yorkshire to celebrate Nicola Broughton's (aka @the_girl_with_the_green_sofa) new venture as Ambassador for the incredible brands housed in RedBrick Mill.
RedBrick Mill is the North's leading destination for interiors and since the year 2000 has been housed in a gorgeous old red brick mill packed to the brim with 40 of the most innovative names one might associate with London and the South (think Made.com, Heals, BoConcept, Abigail Ahern (faux blooms), Tom Dixon, Ligne Roset, Natuzzi, Vitra and many, many more.)
This really is a match made in Heaven: an Award Winning Interiors Blogger who champions small businesses and a forward thinking Design Emporium that has played a huge part in putting the North on the map as an interiors force to be reckoned with.
Now, I can not believe there is a single interiors instagrammer out there who, when they hear the name Nicola Broughton, cannot immediately visualise the image of her fabulous @madedotcom Scott sofa in green grass velvet. So, imagine how surreal it is to walk on to the room set of it!
We all met in Filmore & Union on the First Floor for a Champagne Reception - the tables had been dressed beautifully using props from concessions in store
Next, we were given a guided tour of the Mill. It's huge - I very quickly realised that you could happily spend a whole day at this destination shopping venue, especially as there are 3 cafes to relax and refuel in and deliberate about potential purchases. One thing that I think is really unique is that Redbrick are not precious about you asking to move furniture about the store to try it in different settings - that makes the eclectic ME very happy!
As a self confessed lover of statement lighting I was in seventh heaven in the @tomdixon concession in Heals
Another favourite of mine were the gorgeous artichoke lamps from @vitacopenhagenargentina
A really lovely surprise was the Hope Gallery nestled away on the Mezzanine floor. Caroline, the gallery owner, is so warm and engaging and has carefully curated art and artefacts from emerging and established British and International artists.
I picked up a leaflet about a scheme called Ownart where you can buy contemporary art but spread the cost and I will certainly be looking into this more.
Boconcept have a huge presence in store where you will recognise the amazing Imola chair from Nicola's lounge and also the Sydney bar cart which has been offered as a prize on Nicolas feed.
Made.com originally launched as an online retailer but quickly realised that customers wanted to see and experience their products - Redbrick Mill is the North's only showroom for Made.com
I am a huge fan of Filmore & Union and am lucky to live very near to two of their Restaurants and am a loyal regular. The menu is innovative, wholesome and healthy and they strive to serve food that is nourishing and sumptious. We ate royally from the tasting menu.
So what an amazing evening. I discovered a fabulous lifestyle destination just over an hour from me, met some amazing, inspirational people who are passionate about interiors in the North and reconnected with insta pals.
Thank you so much Redbrick Mill, Made.com, Filmore & Union and, of course, the hostess with the mostess - Nicola Broughton xxx
